AN ISU ALUM WILL GIVE LECTURE ON GLOBAL DEVELOPMENT
AMES, Iowa -- Ambassador Charles Manatt, a 1958 Iowa State University graduate, will speak on "Global Development, Trade Liberalization and the American Response," at 4 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 24, in Benton Auditorium, Scheman Building. This is the inaugural Phelps-Manatt Lecture in Political Science, which is free and open to the public.
Originally from Audubon, Manatt was the U.S. Ambassador to the Dominican Republic from 1991 to 2001. He also chaired the Democratic National Committee (1981-85), and co-chaired the 1992 Clinton/Gore presidential campaign.
Manatt and Thomas Phelps, a 1959 Iowa State graduate, founded the law firm Manatt, Phelps, & Phillips, LLP, Los Angeles. It began by providing legal services to the banking community, but now offers international legal and consulting services.
The Phelps-Manatt lecture focuses on international political economic events that have occurred during the previous year and the impact on local, national and international communities.
