IOWA STATE STUDENTS HOLD INAUGURAL COMEDY FESTIVAL

AMES, Iowa -- The inaugural comedy festival at Iowa State will feature comedians Dave Cross and Tony Rock, who will entertain at 8 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 13, at Stephens Auditorium, Iowa State Center.

The GSB comedy festival is the brainchild of Joe Darr, vice president of the Government of the Student Body, who wanted to establish a fall event to bring students together. Working with T.J. Schneider, GSB president, and the Iowa State Lectures Program, the students booked the comedians for what they hope is the first of an annual fall event.

"I think the big thing is these two comedians are cutting edge," Darr said. "We tried to get some people students could appreciate."

"We started out thinking maybe we could get a band," Schneider said, "but went more toward comedians."

Cross created and starred in HBO's "Mr. Show." He created the role of the jerky brother in the television program "Just Shoot Me," and appeared as the buggy morgue guy in the movie "Men in Black." He also received an Emmy Award for his writing on "The Ben Stiller Show."

Rock (brother of comedian Chris Rock) began performing two years ago and has gained a reputation as a young star in the making. The Hollywood Reporter recently picked him as one of the hot young talents to come out of New York. He's a regular at several comedy clubs and last year filmed a pilot for ABC/Disney.

Tickets are $15 ($5 for ISU students) and available through Ticketmaster.
