INTERNATIONAL PIG VETERINARY CONGRESS AT ISU, JUNE 2-5


AMES, Iowa -- One of the largest assemblies of experts on pig health, production and consumer issues will convene at Iowa State University, June 2-5, for the 17th International Pig Veterinary Society (IPVS) congress.

Approximately 2,000 veterinarians, producers, animal scientists and others involved in the swine industry from 50 countries will attend.

The IPVS congress is recognized as a leading forum for new information on current and emerging diseases. In addition to 175 scientific presentations, the program will feature 18 invited speakers recognized internationally for their contributions to veterinary medicine and pork production. Their topics include the United Kingdom's foot-and-mouth disease outbreak, porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome, alternatives to growth promoters, emergence of novel strains of influenza-A and minimizing environmental impacts.

Media are invited to attend the congress. Complimentary press passes can be reserved before June 1 from Dr. Tom Burkgren, congress secretary, (515) 465-5255. Upon arrival, media should check in at the congress registration desk in the Scheman Building.

Co-hosts for the 17th IPVS congress are Iowa State's College of Veterinary Medicine, the National Pork Board and the American Association of Swine Veterinarians.
