HILL REVERSES DECISION; WILL NOT BECOME ISU BUSINESS DEAN
AMES, Iowa - Ronald Hill, recently named the new dean of the College of Business at Iowa State University, has informed the university that he has reversed his decision and will not assume the dean's position.
Hill, a professor of business at the University of Portland, Ore., informed Ben Allen, provost-designate, that his change-of-mind was based on family considerations.
"We are extremely disappointed in Dr. Hill's decision. He had accepted our offer to become dean of the College of Business and had approved the public announcement of his appointment, which was made on May 10," said ISU Provost Rollin Richmond. "Dr. Hill would have helped to lead the college in its increasingly successful efforts to become one of the premier land-grant colleges of business."
Hill was scheduled to begin his duties as dean on July 1. He was one of three candidates who visited Iowa State and were interviewed in March and April.
Labh Hira, professor of accounting, has been serving as interim dean of the College of Business. He will continue in that post as the search for a permanent dean continues, Richmond said.
With an enrollment in fall 2001 of more than 4,000 students, the College of Business is Iowa State's third largest college. Its new home, the Gerdin Business Building, is expected to be ready for occupancy in fall 2003.
