HIRA APPOINTED DEAN OF ISU COLLEGE OF BUSINESS
AMES, Iowa -- Labh Hira has been appointed to a three-year term as dean of the Iowa State University College of Business. The appointment is effective July 1. Hira, a professor of accounting, has served as interim dean of the college since July 2001.
Hira succeeds Ben Allen, who is serving as provost after serving as interim vice president of external affairs.
"I am very pleased that Labh Hira has agreed to serve as dean of the College of Business. Labh is highly respected as a faculty member and administrator by the Iowa State University community, as well as friends and supporters of the College," said Allen. "He will be an outstanding leader of the College of Business during a very important time in its history."
Hira joined the Iowa State faculty in 1982. He was appointed associate dean of the college in 1996, and senior associate dean in 2000. He served as professor and chair of accounting and finance from 1992 to 1996. Hira has published in a variety of journals, and served on committees of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Internal Revenue Service. He received a B.S. and M.S. from Punjab Agricultural University, India; and a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri, Columbia.
The College of Business was created in 1984. It is the third largest college at Iowa State with a fall 2001 enrollment of more than 4,000 students. The college is expected to move into its new home, the Gerdin Business Building, in fall 2003. The building project was launched with a $10 million gift from Russ and Ann Gerdin of Coralville.
