ISU PROFESSOR EARNS HONOR FOR BOOK
AMES, Iowa -- An Iowa State University professor's book on motherhood and medicine has been honored by the American Sociological Association (ASA).
Jacquelyn Litt, associate professor of sociology, received an honorable mention in ASA's race, gender and class section book competition for "Medicalized Motherhood: Perspectives from the Lives of African American and Jewish Women." Litt interviewed Jewish and African American women who were mothers in the 1930s and 1940s in Philadelphia, when the medical profession was becoming a force in child health, replacing Old World remedies.
