In 2001, Iowa State enrolled 110 National Merit Scholars, which ranks it 7th in the nation among public universities. Last year, Iowa State enrolled 113 Merit Scholars and ranked 9th among publics. Iowa State ranks 19th among all universities enrolling Merit Scholars in 2001. In 2001, Iowa State enrolled 15 National Achievement Scholars. This places Iowa State 5th among public universities enrolling new National Achievement Scholars and 18th among all universities. Last year, Iowa State enrolled 12 Achievement Scholars, which ranked it 7th among all publics. Iowa State ranked 19th among all universities enrolling Achievement Scholars in 2000. The National Achievement Scholarship program recognizes outstanding academic achievement among African American high school students. There are currently 538 National Merit and National Achievement scholars enrolled at Iowa State.
