PATIENT NUMBERS UP AT ISU VETERINARY TEACHING HOSPITAL
AMES, Iowa -- The veterinary medicine faculty and students at Iowa State University's Veterinary Teaching Hospital are caring for more patients than ever.
Admissions of small animals, food animals, horses and wildlife increased more than 5 percent in 2001, compared to 2000.
In 2001, 14,683 animals were admitted, up from 13,900 in 2000.
The Veterinary Teaching Hospital admitted 10,300 small animals, 1,700 food animals, 2,100 horses and 583 wildlife patients in 2001.
Fourth-year veterinary students spend 38 weeks learning in the hospital. A total of 29 College of Veterinary Medicine faculty and 10 residents work in 11 medical specialties in the hospital.
