ISU RANKS HIGH IN NATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARS
AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State ranks 3rd among public universities and 11th among all universities in the nation in the enrollment of top scholars among African American high school students.
This fall, ISU enrolled a record 19 National Achievement Scholars -- African American students recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation for outstanding academic achievement.
"Attracting and retaining very talented minority students is a priority at Iowa State," ISU President Gregory Geoffroy said. "We are extremely pleased to be among the best universities in America in attracting these high-achieving students."
Fifty-five National Achievement Scholars from 24 states currently are enrolled at Iowa State.
Iowa State also enrolled 80 National Merit Scholars this year, which puts the university 12th among public universities and 28th nationally in National Merit enrollment. There are currently 476 National Merit Scholars enrolled at Iowa State.
