NEW MEDIA EXPERTS TO SPEAK AT ISU
AMES, Iowa -- Two Los Angeles-based experts on virtual reality and new media will speak at Iowa State University on Sunday, April 7.
Larry Tuch, a screenwriter and creative consultant, will speak on Storytelling in Virtual Environments at 7 p.m. in Howe Hall. Steve Berman, intellectual property counsel and research engineer, will speak on Perpetual Discovery, Intellectual Capital and Industrial Collaboration at 8 p.m. in Howe Hall. The talks are free and open to the public.
Tuch and Berman are involved in Ashes to Ashes/Dance Driving, a memorial to Sept. 11 being developed at Iowa State. The memorial uses technology at the universitys Virtual Reality Applications Center.
Tuch has worked as a writer and interactive designer for Walt Disney Imagineering, and Paramount Television Group's StoryDrive Engine Project, which focused on interactive story telling in a simulation environment. He has written and co-designed virtual reality scenarios for the University of Southern California Institute for Creative Technologies. His current projects include an Internet game prototype for Paramount and an interactive simulation for the Marine Science Institute at the University of California-Santa Barbara.
Berman is associate director of Strategic Business Alliances and Convergence Technologies Development for the University of California's Systemwide Digital Media Innovation Program. He is on the faculty of the newly established Media, Arts and Technology Program at the University of California-Santa Barbara. He is also chairman of Berman & Company, a diversified consulting firm providing services in the areas of entertainment, wireless, digital media, consumer products, e-commerce, education, biotechnology and other technology sectors.
