IOWA STATE STUDENT CAPTURES WEATHER FORECASTING TITLE

AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State University student Jeremy Grams finished first in the National Collegiate Weather Forecasting Contest for 2001-2002.

Grams, a junior in meteorology from North Branch, Minn., beat out more than 1,000 forecasters, including faculty, graduate and undergraduate students from 38 schools across the U.S.

Other ISU students also did well in the competition. Stephen Konarik (Taylor, Tex.) finished second, Aaron Todd (Sioux City, Iowa) finished third, and Matt Grewe (St. Paul, Minn.), finished fifth in the freshman/sophomore division.

Participants forecast temperatures and precipitation amounts for selected cities across the country from September through April.

The contest, supported by the American Meteorological Society and AccuWeather, is organized by Pennsylvania State University.
