Huang replaces Mike Whiteford, professor of anthropology, who has recently been named associate dean for administrative affairs for the ISU College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. A faculty member at Iowa State since 1975, Huang has been a visiting professor at the National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan and at Xiamen University. He was the assistant director of international grants at Iowa State from 1988-91. Huang's primary research interests are comparative studies of change and development in rural societies in Greater China.
