ISU STUDENTS WIN AT COLLEGIATE ENTREPRENEURS ORGANIZATION (CEO) CONFERENCE
AMES, Iowa -- Two Iowa State University students in the Entrepreneur Club won competitions at the 2001 Collegiate Entrepreneurs Organization (CEO) Conference in Chicago, Nov. 1-3.
Virgil Silhanek, a senior in management information systems from Tama, took first place for the Best CEO chapter Web site. Kristy Kennon, a senior in marketing from Oelwein, was recognized for development of the Best CEO chapter brochure.
Judi Eyles, program coordinator for the ISU Pappajohn Center for Entrepreneurship, also was recognized as Best CEO chapter advisor.
"The ISU Entrepreneur Club has proven itself to be one of the most successful CEO chapters nationwide," said Jason Reiman, president of the ISU Entrepreneur Club. " Every student at Iowa State has the opportunity to become part of the club."
Eighteen club members and Eyles participated in workshops; heard speakers including Myra Hart, co-founder of Staples, Inc., and Jimmy John Liautaud, founder of Jimmy John's subs; and networked with business leaders and other student organizations.
"The conference gave hundreds of students from all over the country the opportunity to sit in a room and talk with well-known entrepreneurs and each other," Eyles said. "It was inspiring to feel the energy in the rooms as entrepreneurs of all ages told their stories and young people began to visualize their own successes."
The Coleman Foundation, ISU Government of the Student Body (GSB), ISU Pappajohn Center for Entrepreneurship, and ISU Entrepreneur Club, sponsored the club's trip.
