FCS ALUMNI ASSOCIATION TO HOST ANNUAL MEETING JUNE 8, CHRISTIAN PETERSON SCULPTURE "JOY" TO BE DEDICATED
AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State University's College of Family and Consumer Sciences will host its alumni association annual meeting and program from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 8, in MacKay Hall auditorium.
The theme is "Celebrate Joy." The new Christian Petersen drinking fountain, "Joy," will be unveiled during a morning program beginning at 9 a.m. The dedication will be at 4 p.m. Petersen created a plaster sculpture in Brookside Park in 1938. The college purchased the plaster cast in 1986. In 2000, a bronze casting was created.
The drum-shaped bronze casting, standing 30" high and 30" in diameter, shows the bas relief of children at play. The joyous parade of images around the drinking fountain depicts children dancing, walking and frolicking. The bronze casting is near the Petersen "Marriage Ring" fountain on the south side of MacKay Hall.
Carol Meeks, dean of the college, will outline future plans for the college. Activities will include guided tours of the college's public works of art and of the new food laboratory and the universal design learning laboratory; and presentations of current research on eating out, childcare issues and soy nutrition. Alumni awards and scholarships will also be announced.
The cost for the event is $14, which includes lunch in the MacKay Hall Tearoom and program materials. The public is invited.
