CARLSON NAMED ISU ASSOCIATE PROVOST
AMES, Iowa -- Susan Carlson, professor and assistant department chair of English at Iowa State University, has been appointed associate provost. The appointment is effective July 16.
Carlson's responsibilities as associate provost will include faculty recruitment, development and evaluation, as well as policy, personnel and conduct matters. Carlson succeeds Faye Whitaker, who is retiring.
Carlson has been on the Iowa State English faculty since 1980. She was appointed to the department's assistant chair for faculty development in 1997. She has chaired numerous department and college committees. She has published two books on comedy in the British theater, and is currently researching connections between William Shakespeare and early 20th century suffrage theater. She received a B.A. (1975) from the University of Iowa; and an M.A. (1976) and Ph.D. (1980) from the University of Oregon.
The associate provost position is a 75 percent appointment for a tenured faculty member. It is a renewable, three-year appointment.
