ISU SOLAR CAR TEAM FINISHES 16TH IN ASC
AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State University's solar car team officially finished
16th in the 2001 American Solar Challenge. Team PrISUm, driving its Odyssey
solar car, completed the 2,247-mile course in 92 hours and 39 minutes
(92:39:00).
The University of Michigan won the race with a total elapsed time of
56:10:46. The University of Missouri-Rolla (57:30:52) was second, followed
by the University of Waterloo (62:00:18). For a complete final standings go

The Iowa State team made considerable headway in the second half of the ASC,
consistently finishing among the top cars as they raced across the desert
southwest.
"We really pulled together as a team and kept the car on the road from Tulsa
to Claremont," said Nick Mohr, director of Team PrISUm. "We covered more
than 1,000 miles in roughly four days of racing toward the end of the ASC.
I'm proud of what we accomplished."
The ISU team will remain in California and take part in an Energy Technology
Show at the San Bernardino County Fairgrounds this weekend. The team expects
to be back in Ames on Aug. 1.
Thirty teams began the American Solar Challenge in Chicago, July 15. At
nearly 2,300 miles, it was the longest solar car race ever attempted. The
race course followed portions of old Route 66. The ASC was designed to
advance renewable energy and electric vehicle technologies, promote
educational and engineering excellence, encourage environmental
consciousness and teach teamwork.
Below is the list of ISU students, with hometowns, who participated in the
ASC.
