ISU SOLAR CAR TEAM OUTRUNS THE CLOUDS IN DAY 8 OF ASC
AMES, Iowa -- Overcast conditions didn't last too long for Iowa State
University's solar car team, Team PrISUm, which out ran the clouds in the
morning and managed to travel from Grants, N.M. to Flagstaff, Ariz., in the
eighth day of racing in the American Solar Challenge. The ISU team drove its
Odyssey car a total distance of nearly 260 miles today.
"This was our longest day on the road. The car ran great and the team worked
well together," said Nick Mohr, director of Team PrISUm. "We accomplished
what we set out to accomplish today. It was our best day so far."
Mohr said the team encountered some morning clouds, but they managed out run
them and hit blue sky from about 3 p.m. through the end of the race day (6
p.m. local time).
"We are really pulling together now as a team and its showing in how well
we're performing on the road," Mohr said. "We hope to cover a similar amount
of mileage tomorrow and start making our way through California."
As of 7 p.m. (CST) on July 22, five teams had made it into Barstow Calif.
Those five are University of Michigan, Queens University, University of
Missouri-Rolla, University of Minnesota and Kansas State University. MIT and
Principia College are nearby. All teams must meet in Barstow, Calif., by
Tuesday evening for a staged final leg of the race from Barstow to
Claremont, Calif., on Wednesday.
