JACOBSON NAMED CHAIR OF IOWA STATE'S GEOLOGY DEPARTMENT
AMES, Iowa -- Carl Jacobson, professor of geological and atmospheric sciences, has been named chair of Iowa State University's department of geological and atmospheric sciences.
Jacobson joined the Iowa State faculty in 1980. Jacobson served two two-year terms as associate chair of the department of geological and atmospheric sciences. In 1991, he received an Outstanding Teacher Award from Iowa State. In 1990, he was given an award for excellence in teaching by Iowa States Geology Graduate Student Organization.
Jacobson researches the ancient structural history of the San Andreas faulty in southern California.
Jacobson received a Ph.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles. He earned a bachelor's degree from the State University of New York at Binghamton.
Iowa State's Department of Geological and Atmospheric Sciences offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in geology and meteorology.
