The new department was created with the merger of the former departments of textiles and clothing; hotel, restaurant and institution management; and family and consumer sciences education and studies. Each curriculum will remain separate. The new department has nearly 550 undergraduates and 70 graduate students. The merger will enhance teaching programs and create more opportunities for cross-disciplinary research, said Mary Gregoire, department chair.
