IOWA STATE'S FINDLAY HONORED FOR INTERNATIONAL WORK
AMES, Iowa Robert Findlay, Iowa State University professor of architecture, has received the Phi Beta Delta Faculty Award, which recognizes scholarly achievement in international education.
Phi Beta Delta is a national organization founded at California State University, Long Beach, in 1986. It has 120 chapters. The organization was created to recognize the scholarly achievement of international students and scholars. Each spring, several ISU faculty and students are inducted into the chapter.
Findlay has led Iowa State student groups to Finland, England, Mexico and Italy. He also has served as a mentor to for international students at Iowa State. Findlay is a long-time member of the Peace Corps and the United States Crisis Corps. He was a disaster management consultant in El Salvador in 1999. In 1998, he helped residents on Puka Puka atoll, Cook Islands, manage the aftermath of repeated cyclones. Findlay also is director of graduate programs for the department of architecture in Iowa State's College of Design.
In April, Findlay will receive a $1,000 prize from Phi Beta Delta at the organization's annual conference in Montreal.
