ISU VETERINARY MEDICINE PROFESSOR HONORED FOR GLOBAL WORK
AMES, Iowa -- An Iowa State University distinguished professor of veterinary medicine has received the 2001 International Veterinary Congress Award from the American Veterinary Medical Association.
James A. Roth was honored for outstanding contributions to the international understanding of veterinary medicine. He received the award at the association's national assembly in July.
Roth is an internationally recognized immunologist, noted for his studies of bovine viral diarrhea, virus streptococcal infections in swine and vaccines for cattle and swine. He is executive director of the Institute for International Cooperation in Animal Biologics at Iowa State and has traveled extensively throughout Latin America and Africa to promote the control of infectious diseases of animals.
Roth also is assistant dean for international affairs for the College of Veterinary Medicine.
Iowa State and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service jointly fund the Institute for International Cooperation in Animal Biologics, which seeks to improve the availability, safety, efficacy and use of veterinary vaccines throughout the world.
