DAVID SEDARIS TO SPEAK AT IOWA STATE

AMES, Iowa -- Best-selling author and satirist David Sedaris will do a reading at Iowa State University on Thursday, April 19, at 8 p.m. in the Great Hall of the Memorial Union.

Sedaris is the author of "Me Talk Pretty One Day," "Naked" and "Barrel Fever." He has been compared to Mark Twain, Nathaniel West and Dorothy Parker. Sedaris has earned a huge following with his hilarious, sharply observed commentaries about life on National Public Radio's "Morning Edition" and "This American Life" programs. He also is a frequent contributor to "Esquire" and "The New Yorker."

Sedaris and his actress sister, Amy, have written several plays that have been produced in New York City. Sedaris also taught writing at the Art Institute of Chicago for two years.

Sedaris made his NPR debut with "Santaland Diaries," a wildly funny monologue recounting his strange-but-true experiences as a green-tight clad elf at a Macy's store holiday display.

"The Washington Post" said of Sedaris: "On the air, Sedaris' shrewd, wickedly funny pieces prick up your ears; his tart voice never gets lost in NPR's Sargasso Sea of sincerity. On the page, Sedaris seems even more accomplished; this slim volume (Barrel Fever) establishes him as one of America's most prickly, and most delicious, young comic talents."

Sedaris' appearance at Iowa State is free and open to the public.
