IOWA STATE'S SPRING COMMENCEMENT WILL BE MAY 4-5

AMES. Iowa -- Iowa State alumnus Keith Yamamoto, professor and chair of the department of cellular and molecular pharmacology at the University of California, San Francisco, will be awarded an honorary doctorate during Iowa State University's spring graduate commencement ceremony Friday, May 4, at 8 p.m. in Stephens Auditorium.

Yamamoto, who will also present the graduate commencement address, is known for his breakthrough work on hormone reactions within cells. Yamamoto received his bachelor of science degree from Iowa State in 1968.

About 399 students will receive master's (317) or doctoral (82) degrees during the graduate ceremony.

Interim ISU President Richard Seagrave will present the commencement address at the spring undergraduate ceremony on Saturday, May 5, beginning at 2 p.m. in Hilton Coliseum. An estimated 2,299 undergraduates will receive bachelor's degrees during the ceremony. In addition, 96 students will receive the doctor of veterinary medicine (DVM) degree at a special ceremony in Stephens Auditorium beginning at noon on Saturday.

Tickets are not required for the ceremonies.

Each of the undergraduate colleges will honor its students during a college-wide ceremony prior to the Hilton ceremony.

The ISU Student Alumni Leadership Council (formerly Student Alumni Association) will sponsor a brunch for all undergraduate students and their guests from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday in the Maple-Willow-Larch Dining Center. Ticket prices are $11 for adults and $6 for children ages 3 to 12. (Children under 3 eat free.) Tickets should be reserved by Monday, April 30, by phoning (515) 294-8488 or by purchasing them in 158 Memorial Union.
