The building is part of the College of Family and Consumer Sciences. The award was made to the buildings architects RDG Bussard Dikis, Inc., of Des Moines. The Palmer Building was one of four Iowa Merit award winners. The 30,000-square-foot, three-story, $8.3 million building was cited for its design that blends the new building with its neighbor, MacKay Hall, while maintaining a distinct look of its own. The judges also cited the atrium insertion that joins the three levels of Palmer to MacKay. The Palmer Building was officially dedicated on Oct. 7. It opened in March. The first program utilizing the building was the Child Development Laboratory School. The building also houses the department of Human Development and Family Studies and the Marriage and Family Therapy and Financial Counseling clinics. -30- |
