Katz, founder and director of MVP Strategies, will speak on "More Than a Few Good Men: A Lecture on American Manhood and Violence Against Women" at 8 p.m. in the Sun Room, Memorial Union. His lecture is free and open to the public. He will address such issues as rape, sexual harassment, abuse in college dating relationships and other forms of gender-based discrimination and violence. He will also talk about how the sports culture, comedy, advertising, and other media depictions of men, women, sex and violence contribute to gender violence. Katz’ MVP Strategies provides gender violence prevention training to U.S. colleges, high schools, law enforcement organizations, military services, community organizations and corporations. He is the creator of a new video, "Tough Guise: Violence, Media, and the Crisis in Masculinity." Katz is a former all-star football player who became the first man at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, to earn a minor in women’s studies. Katz also will do violence prevention training at the first Iowa Conference to End Violence against Women, which will be held in Howe Hall on the Iowa State campus. Gov. Tom Vilsack has invited men in leadership positions across Iowa to the conference.
