11-15-00 Contacts: David Holger, Engineering, (515) 294-1309 Skip Derra, News Service, (515) 294-4917 ISU PROFESSOR ELECTED FELLOW OF SCIENTIFIC SOCIETY AMES, Iowa -- David Holger, associate dean in Iowa State's College of Engineering, has been elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Holger was elected a Fellow for his "distinguished contributions to the field of noise control engineering, for editorial service in noise control engineering, for contributions to engineering accreditation and for leadership in academic administration." Holger has been the associate dean in engineering for academic programs and budget since 1995. He has been a member of the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology since 1997. He currently serves on its executive committee and as chair of the engineering accreditation criteria committee. Holger's research involves noise control and applied acoustics, especially machine noise control, environmental noise control, active noise control and computer applications in noise control. He holds three noise control related patents, and has served as editor in chief of Noise Control Engineering Journal, a professional journal, since 1996. "Election to Fellow status in AAAS is a significant honor for an engineer because it is a recognition associated with broad, rather than focused, contributions to science and technology," Holger said. All of the 251 new Fellows will be recognized and presented with a certificate in a Feb. 17, 2001, ceremony during the AAAS annual meeting.
