IOWA STATE TO HOST FCS EDUCATORS CONFERENCE JUNE 7

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State University’s College of Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) and the Des Moines Independent Community School District will host a workshop for high school educators, "Current Topics in Family and Consumer Sciences," on Wednesday, June 7.

Keynote speaker will be Kathleen Lodl, Extension Specialist, 4-H Youth Development, at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. Her speech, "Building Character in Young People," will be at 9 a.m. in MacKay Auditorium on Iowa State’s campus.

Lodl is co-chair of Nebraska’s CHARACTER COUNTS! Team. This program teaches trustworthiness, responsibility, respect, fairness, caring and citizenship to youths.

Workshop participants will also select two morning and two afternoon small-group sessions. Session topics will be on soy products and taste, stress on today’s teens, menopause issues, careers in FCS, textile and fashion trends, and healthy ways to eat out.

To register for the workshop, send a check for $15, made payable to the College of Family and Consumer Sciences, with your name, address and e-mail address by May 26 to Dynette Mosher, 131 MacKay Hall, Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa, 50011-1120.
