| 8-4-00 Contacts: Teddi Barron, News Service, (515) 294-4778 IOWA STATE PLANT SCIENCES ADMINISTRATOR TO SPEAK AT ROYAL AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY OF ENGLAND AMES, Iowa -- Colin Scanes, interim director of the Plant Sciences Institute at Iowa State University, has been invited by the Royal Agricultural Society of England to give a presentation on genetically modified organisms. He will speak Aug. 14 at the Royal Agricultural Center, Warwickshire, England. The Royal Agricultural Society is an independent charity devoted to the advancement of British agriculture through science and the stewardship of land, animals and people. Scanes came to Iowa State in 1995 when he was appointed executive associate dean of the college of Agriculture, associate director of the Iowa Agriculture and Home Economics Experiment Station and professor of animal science. He previously was on the faculty at Rutgers University, New Jersey. Scanes earned B.S. and D.Sc. degrees from Hull University, United Kingdom, and a Ph.D. from the University of Wales, United Kingdom. The presentation was coordinated through the United States Embassy, London, where Scanes spoke last February.
