8-3-00 Contacts: Alicia Carriquiry, Associate Provost, (515) 294-9591 Teddi Barron, News Service, (515) 294-4778 SECOND FINALIST NAMED FOR DIRECTOR OF PLANT SCIENCES INSTITUTE AMES, Iowa -- Lee Pratt, research professor of botany and former director of the Center for Plant Cellular and Molecular Biology at the University of Georgia, Athens, is a finalist for the position of director of the Plant Sciences Institute at Iowa State University. He will visit campus Aug. 9-11. Pratt earned his doctorate (1967) from Oregon State University, Corvallis, and his bachelor's (1963) and master's degrees (1964) from Stanford University, Palo Alto, Calif. Pratt served on the faculty at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tenn., before joining the faculty at Georgia in 1979. From 1982 to 1986, he was an invited professor at the Laboratory of Plant Physiology, University of Geneva, Switzerland. Pratt served as research advisor for the Laboratory for Photoperception and Signal Transduction in Japan from 1992 to 1997. He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and serves on the Life Sciences Panel for the National Research Council's Associateship Programs. Pratt will participate in an open forum at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9, in 1414 Molecular Biology Building. A reception will follow at 4:30 p.m. He will present a research seminar at 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 10, in 1652 Gilman Hall. The public is invited to attend.
