AMES, Iowa -- Wendy Wintersteen, Iowa State University’s 16th president, will be formally installed at a 10:15 a.m. ceremony this Friday, Sept. 21, at Stephens Auditorium.
The public celebration is a tradition that has marked presidential starts at Iowa State since 1869, when Adonijah Welch formally took the helm. In her installation address, “To Serve. To Lead. To Excel.”, President Wintersteen will unveil her vision for Iowa State and her plans to achieve it.
The event will be marked by a colorful procession of several hundred academics, brief remarks by state and university officials, and performances by:
- Simon Estes, bass-baritone and F. Wendell Miller Distinguished Artist in Residence in the department of music;
- the ISU Wind Ensemble, conducted by Michael Golemo, director of bands and professor of music; and
- the Iowa State Singers, conducted by James Rodde, director of choral activities and professor of music.
The wind ensemble will debut “To Serve,” music commissioned specifically for the installation and composed by Golemo.
Gregory Geoffroy, Iowa State University president emeritus, will introduce President Wintersteen. Iowa Board of Regents President Michael Richards will preside over the ceremony, give welcoming remarks, and install the president.
Gov. Kim Reynolds, U.S. Rep. Steve King, Ames Mayor John Haila, University of Iowa President Bruce Harreld, University of Northern Iowa President Mark Nook and members of the Iowa Board of Regents will join Iowa State faculty, deans and administrators as platform party officials.
