National business ethics expert will speak about Volkswagen and General Motors scandals Feb. 25 at ISU

Bucaro

AMES, Iowa -- A leading expert and advocate on the power of ethical leadership in business will speak at Iowa State University on Thursday, Feb. 25.

Frank Bucaro will present "How to Succeed Ethically When Others Bend the Rules: The VW and GM Scandals" at 8 p.m. in the Memorial Union Great Hall. His talk is free and open to the public.

Bucaro is senior ethics advisor and content provider for the Automotive Institute of Ethics, and ethics content provider for Compliance Velocity, a mobile app for pharmaceutical companies. He works with some of the world's most successful companies. An advocate of the idea that ethics and values have the power to contribute to success rather than impede it, he will discuss General Motors Co. and Volkswagen AG as examples of the problems and consequences that arise when ethical behavior is not defined, understood or demonstrated.

Bucaro, who taught moral theology and ethics for 18 years, took a unique career path from the classroom to the boardroom. After a succession of high profile media reports on unethical practices in the marketplace captured his attention, he left teaching to start his own business. Among the organizations that have invited him to speak are the Association of Government Accountants, the Ethics and Compliance Officer Association, New York Life, Blue Cross Blue Shield and RE/MAX International. He is the author of "Trust Me! Insights into Ethical Leadership."

Bucaro's talk is co-sponsored by the colleges of Business and Engineering, the Murray Bacon Center for Business Ethics and the Committee on Lectures, which is funded by Student Government.
