Iowa State's campanile bells will ring out 150 times at today's noontime concert as carillonneur Tin-Shi Tam and students honor the sesquicentennial of the Morrill Act. President Abraham Lincoln signed the Morrill Act into law July 2, 1862, paving the way for the nation's land-grant universities. Iowa was the first state to accept the provisions of the act, making Iowa Agricultural College and Model Farm (now Iowa State University) the first official land-grant university. Not lucky enough to be on campus today? Tune in live starting at 11:50 a.m. to join the celebration: http://www.music.iastate.edu/carillon/webcast/.
