AMES, Iowa--James Autry, a popular author and lecturer on business ethics and leadership, will speak at Iowa State University on Tuesday, Oct. 23. His lecture, "Hard Choices: How to Make the Right Decisions at Work and Keep Your Self-Respect," will be at 7 p.m. in the Memorial Union Sun Room. A book signing and reception will follow. All events are free and open to the public.
Autry's talk will draw from the most recent of his nine published books, "The Book of Hard Choices," which he co-authored with Peter Roy. The book presents a new approach to the subject of integrity, demonstrating through practical examples the positive and negative consequences of difficult business decisions that leave integrity on the line. Autry's other books include "The Servant Leader," "Real Power" and the bestselling "Love and Profit."
A consultant with FORTUNE 500 corporations, Autry had a distinguished career at Meredith Corporation before taking early retirement in 1991. He is the former president of Meredith's Magazine Group, a $500 million operation with more than 900 employees. He directed the operation of 22 special interest publications and 14 magazines, including Better Homes and Gardens, Ladies' Home Journal and Metropolitan Home.
The lecture is sponsored by the College of Business, the Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication, and the Committee on Lectures (funded by the Government of the Student Body).
