AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State University hosts the final two speakers in its World Affairs lectures series next week with presentations by Noam Chomsky and Stephan Rapp.
Chomsky will speak Tuesday, April 11, and Rapp will give his lecture Wednesday, April 12. Both lectures are at 8 p.m. in the Sun Room, Memorial Union, and are free and open to the public.
Chomsky lectures widely on linguistics, philosophy, intellectual history, contemporary issues, international affairs and U.S. foreign policy. His presentation is titled "Global Justice and Human Rights."
He has published more than 15 books on various topics. He is also on faculty in the Department of Linguistics and Philosophy at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He received his doctorate in linguistics from the University of Pennsylvania and holds more than 20 honorary degrees.
Rapp's lecture, "International War Crimes Tribunal in Rwanda," will focus on his work over the last four years as chief of prosecutions for the head of the United Nations' International War Crimes Tribunal of Rwanda. Rapp is an Iowa native from Cedar Falls and is a former U.S. Attorney in Iowa.
Prior to his appointment with the U.N. Tribunal, Rapp was a trial attorney in Waterloo and an elected member of the Iowa Legislature.
Due to the large crowds expected, these lectures will have expanded seating areas that include the Sun Room, Great Hall and South Ballroom of the Union.
