AMES, Iowa -- Come hungry before this Saturday's ISU football game against Baylor.
From 8 to 11 a.m. Oct. 8, Alpha Gamma Rho members will serve unlimited waffles, flavored syrups, sausage and beverages at their fraternity house, 201 Gray Ave. The cost is $5 per person or $4 in advance. Advance tickets are available at 201 Gray Ave. or from any AGR member. All money raised will go toward a memorial fund for Andrew "Ardie" Albright.
Albright was an Iowa State sophomore and a third-generation member of Alpha Gamma Rho. He was killed and three of his AGR fraternity brothers were injured in a Sept. 13 car accident in Boone County.
Eric Peterson, president of Alpha Gamma Rho, says the fraternity hosts its "Western Waffles" philanthropy annually with help from sorority Alpha Delta Pi. In previous years, the fundraiser has helped to support Farm Safety 4 Just Kids. This year, Peterson says, fraternity members decided to donate the proceeds to the Albright family.
"Ardie could always make you laugh with his quotes and jokes, and his smile was contagious," Peterson said. "We miss him."
