AMES, Iowa -- The AEGON Transamerica Foundation, Cedar Rapids, has made a three-year pledge totaling $100,000 to Iowa State University's College of Business to establish an endowed scholarship for finance and accounting students.
The AEGON Transamerica Endowed Scholarship will award $1,000 scholarships annually to four College of Business sophomores or juniors majoring in finance or accounting, or enrolled in the Master of Accounting program. In addition to rewarding academic success, the scholarships also emphasize campus and community involvement and leadership.
"We're very thankful for AEGON's help in our mission to make education more affordable for our students," said Labh Hira, dean of the College of Business. "Even more rewarding is the opportunity to recognize excellence in the College of Business."
The AEGON Transamerica Foundation is the philanthropic organization of the AEGON Insurance Group, a global leader in insurance products, including life insurance, pensions, related investment products and supplemental health insurance products. Cedar Rapids is home to AEGON's largest location in the United States, housing six of its divisions and major business units with more than 2,700 employees.
"By endowing a scholarship at Iowa State University, we are investing in Iowa's economic development," said Marie Swope, vice president of the AEGON Transamerica Foundation. "Our long-standing and positive relationship with the university assures us that this endowment will help students prepare for their futures."
The AEGON Transamerica Foundation's support was given to benefit Iowa State University through the Iowa State University Foundation - a private, non-profit organization dedicated to securing and managing private gift support for Iowa State University.
