Ames, Iowa --Kurt Hebert has been appointed interim chair of the chemical engineering department at Iowa State University. Hebert temporarily replaces department chair Charles Glatz, who has been appointed interim dean of the College of Engineering.
Hebert joined the chemical engineering faculty at Iowa State University in 1985 as an assistant professor. He was promoted to associate professor in 1990 and professor in 2001. Hebert earned his bachelor's degree from Princeton University in 1978, and his master's and doctoral degrees in 1981 and 1985, respectively, from the University of Illinois.
Hebert's teaching and research specialties include corrosion, electrochemical materials science and engineering, etching and transport phenomena. He has published 50 peer-reviewed journal articles, either singly or in collaboration, and has given 60 invited and conference presentations.
He will serve as interim chair until the arrival in January of Mark Kushner, who last month was named Iowa State's eighth dean of the College of Engineering.
