MIT blackjack team player who inspired a book and movie will speak at ISU Nov. 3

AMES, Iowa -- Jeffrey Ma, strategy expert and subject of the best seller "Bringing Down The House" and "21," the movie about the MIT Blackjack Team, will speak at Iowa State University on Wednesday, Nov. 3. His talk, "The House Advantage: Playing the Odds to Win Big in Business," will be at 8 p.m. in the Memorial Union Great Hall. It is free and open to the public.

Ma is an entrepreneur and co-founder of Citizen Sports, the sports media company that is changing how businesses use numbers and metrics to build their brand and retain customers. The company brought the fantasy sports industry to Facebook and digital sports information to the iPhone and Android.

In his presentation, Ma shows how harnessing the power of technology-driven platforms-- using not only social media but also concrete data and numbers -- can create success. He discusses the similarities between blackjack and the business world and shares personal experiences from both to show how math and media can make a positive difference in an organization. Ma's new book also is "The House Advantage: Playing the Odds to Win Big in Business."

Ma's presentation is cosponsored by the Greater Iowa Credit Union Business Lecture Series, ISU College of Business, and the Committee on Lectures, which is funded by the Government of the Student Body.
